The Power Within: Resilience and Self-Worth at Rock Island Elementary with Motivational Youth Speaker Eddie Cortes

Hey, everyone! Let’s travel back to October 18th when I had the honor of being the motivational youth speaker at Rock Island Elementary in Rock Island, WA. The main goal of the day was to inspire students and help them build resilience and positive self-worth. It was a day filled with heartwarming moments and powerful lessons.

A Chance Encounter: A Glimpse into a Student’s World

The day started with a poignant moment that would set the tone for the entire assembly. As I arrived at the school, a teacher greeted me enthusiastically. By her side stood a cute little girl dressed in raggedy clothes, wearing a backpack that had seen better days. The teacher introduced us, and the little girl timidly said, “hi.” The teacher asked her, “Are you ready for book fair day?” The little girl’s demeanor changed instantly. Her face lost its sparkle, she dropped her head, and with a heavy heart, she exclaimed, “I have no money!” She was embarrassed and refused to go in.

This moment broke my heart. The emphasis she gave to the word “money” was telling. Her self-worth seemed to be defined by what she didn’t have materially, rather than recognizing the boundless potential that lies within her.

Celebrating the Value in Every Student

During the assembly, I decided to include this sweet little girl in a skit about my childhood dream. She joined me on stage, helping me bring my dream to life. When the skit ended, I made sure to express my gratitude to her for her essential role in the presentation. I told her that I couldn’t have done it without her, emphasizing the unique value she had brought to the assembly. We celebrated her contribution and discussed how it had enriched the experience for everyone.

It was a beautiful and powerful moment, where this little girl learned that her worth extended far beyond material possessions.

Empowering Students to Reach Their Full Potential

As the presentation continued, I emphasized a crucial point: our potential is greater than our life circumstances. Each student, including the girl in the raggedy clothes, has everything they need to chase their dreams and fulfill their potential. This message resonated deeply with the students.

A Symphony of Dreams

After the assembly, many students approached me to share their dreams. They felt inspired to pursue their passions and start chasing them. It was incredible to see how the message had ignited their ambitions and instilled the belief that they could achieve their dreams.

One of those students was the little girl in the raggedy clothes.

Something tells me that deep inside her is a dream chaser ready to fulfill her remarkable potential.

An Incredible Day at Rock Island Elementary

Speaking at Rock Island Elementary was a truly heartwarming experience. The students were not only amazing but also a ton of fun, and they were engaged from the very beginning. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Principal John Reichmann for the invitation, warm hospitality, and inspiring leadership.

It was evident that under Principal Reichmann’s guidance, an incredible team of dedicated educators fosters a culture where each student’s unique potential is valued and championed. Rock Island Elementary is a place where dreams come to life.

Stay tuned for more adventures as we continue to empower and inspire students to believe in themselves and chase their dreams. Remember, your potential is limitless!
